BACKGROUND
It is a challenge to reach the different stakeholders regarding HIV/AIDS in South Africa. CBI Electric: Aberdare ATC Telecom Cables (Pty) Ltd wants to initiate an innovative method of reaching the South
African population in conveying an important message to prevent HIV/AIDS.
REQUIREMENTS FOR A SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM TO CONTRIBUTE IN THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST HIV/AIDS
- A visible message is needed with a high impact.
- A good geographical penetration is essential.
- The campaign must benefit the organizations involved in the anti HIV/AIDS campaign.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY LINK CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY COMMITMENT
CBI Electric: Aberdare ATC Telecom Cables (Pty) Ltd's social responsibility activities focus on programmes that are mutually beneficial to the company and communities that we serve. These value-adding
programmes are carefully selected on the basis of most pressing needs of our communities. The fields of education, health, infrastructure and job creation
are focused on. Over the years we have not only provided monetary contributions to the projects we are engaged in, but have also provided our time and
internal resources. This is borne out of our belief that the capacity that exists in the company must be shared with institutions within our community. We,
therefore, have always been actively engaged in forums and bodies that influence and contribute to the social and economic upliftment of our society.
- Infrastructure at schools (Ras Primary School) where CBI Electric: Aberdare ATC Telecom Cables (Pty) Ltd participated in water supply to the school. A further project will be to provide a secure
office and electricity supply. We will also engaged in assisting with subjects like mathematics and science.
- Practical work exposure for Technikon and University students and sponsorship of students (Peter Segoa is currently studying towards Mechanical
Engineering B Tech).
- Bursaries for PDI scholars at Rabboni Christian School CBI Electric: Aberdare ATC Telecom Cables (Pty) Ltd sponsors two learners at Rabboni Christian School. These learners are from very
disadvantaged backgrounds. They were assessed during their Grade 7 year and are now in Grade 8. It is envisaged that CBI Electric: Aberdare ATC Telecom Cables (Pty) Ltd will sponsor up to 5 of these
learners.
- The Madibeng Centre for Research is an NGO initiative that provides training to cadets and conducts medical research in the Madibeng area. Partners
in this project are Medunsa, the University of Witwatersrand, the local hospital, CBI Electric: Aberdare ATC Telecom Cables (Pty) Ltd and other community organizations. CBI Electric: Aberdare ATC Telecom Cables (Pty) Ltd erected a security system for
the Centre and provided computers for the cadets to do their research. We also provide capacity in the form of representation on the Board of the Centre.
